Rajasthan

Rajasthan is one of the most fascinating regions of the world, one of its oldest civilizations with an extremely rich cultural heritage. Today, it is one of India 's top performing regional economies. In 1999-2000, Rajasthan was the fastest growing state in the country with a compounded annual growth rate of 9.18 per cent.
Rajasthan is a predominantly agrarian state where agriculture contributes about 25 to 40 per cent of the State's Domestic Product, and about 70 per cent of the population is engaged in agriculture and allied activities. The main crops of the State are food grains, pulses and oilseeds. The State has emerged as a leading oilseed producer in the case of rape-seed, soyabean and mustard.

Climate
The climate of Rajasthan varies from semi arid to arid. The mercury touches 49 degrees centigrade at some places during summer and drops below freezing point during winter.

Language
Hindi is the official language of the Rajasthan State. But the principal language is "Rajasthani", and the four major dialects are Marwari in the west, Jaipuri in the east. But Hindi language is replacing Rajasthani. Moreover, you will find English speaking people in all the major cities, and in remote villages also you will find someone who can speak and understand English.

Geographical Features
The Aravalli Range, which is one of the oldest mountain ranges of the world, divides Rajasthan into two geographically different regions. This mountain range is approximately 692 kms long and runs from the southwest to the north east part of the state. The western part is made up of the 'Thar', the Great Indian Desert and the eastern part is made up of semi arid regions and fertile plains.


Music & Dance
Every region has its own very dialect of music and dance. The "Ghoomar" Dance and "Kalbeliya" Dance of Jaisalmer have international recognition. Folk music is a vital part of Marwad Rajasthan culture. Songs are used to tell the legendary battles of Rajputs. Folk songs are commonly ballads which relate heroic deeds, love stories, and religious or devotional songs known as bhajans and banis and often accompanied by musical instruments like dholak, sitar, sarangi etc.

Culture & Heritage
Rajasthan has a very rich historical and cultural heritage. It is a land of Deserts, Forests and Mountains. It is studded with more than 600 forts & castles and over 1,000 palaces. The Marble Palaces and Lakes writes the romantic stories of its kings and princess. Its huge and rocky forts sounds the story of its brave warriors.

Art & Architecture
Marwad Rajasthan is known for its traditional and colorful art. The block prints, tye and die prints, Bagaru prints, zari embroidery are major export products from Marwad. Handicraft items like wooden furniture and handicrafts, carpets, blur potteries are some of the things you will find here. Marwad is shoppers paradise.

Marwad is famous for the majestic forts, intricately carved temples and decorated havelis. Dilwara Temples, Jaisalmer Havelis are true architectural heritage.
