    Places to Visit

Hawa Mahal: The Hawa Mahal, which adjoins the famous City Palace wall, was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh and has now become one of the major landmarks of Jaipur. The palace is shaped like a pyramid and is a five-storied building, with number of small windows and screens, with arched roofs. As one looks at this building, one realizes that the rear side of the building is comparatively very plain and lacks much of ornamentation. One is rather surprised at the contrast, since in the front there is intricate carving and much attention has been paid to even minute details yet the backside is more a mass of pillars and passages.

Jantar Mantar: Jantar Mantar, in Jaipur, is the most famous of five observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh in India. The Jantar mantar is a mis-prounounciation of Sanskrit word Yantra Mantra. It was built to check the astronomical observation at Jaipur. The Jantar Mantar at Jaipur was conceived as a quest for discovering the mysteries of the Cosmos. The sun dial of Jantar mantar is one of the major tourist attraction

The City Palace: Located in the center of the old city, it is the official residence of the royal family. The magnificent palace houses a museum named after a former king Maharaja Sawai Man Singh. The museum displays a rich collection of Rajasthani costumes and arms of the Mughals and Rajputs. The most impressive of all collections are the rare astronomical works in Arabic, Persian, Latin and Sanskrit acquired by Sawai Jai Singh II.

Ram Niwas Bagh: It was built as a famine relief project by Sawai Ram Singh II in 1868 AD. It houses a well-kept spacious garden with a zoo, an aviary, a greenhouse, a herbarium, a museum and popular sport ground.
Other major attractions at Jaipur include Amber Fort, Sheesh Mahal, Jaigarh Fort, Amer Palace, Govind Devji Temple, Galtaji and Sisodia Rani Garden.
